The inaugural Deloitte Innovation Challenge was held in partnership with Georgia Tech in April 2023.
The prompt was to design ‘a technology-focused suggestion, solution, or innovation that addresses a current challenge being experienced on campus.’
Teams were formed based on a business chemistry assessment and each team was assigned a Deloitte consultant as an advisor.

Students have limited time available to them. With so many events happening around campus, it is impossible for them to keep track of them all and hence, students miss out on events of importance to them and lose out on a holistic campus experience.

It is crucial that alerts and campus-wide notifications reach students on time, especially in emergencies. Other times, receiving notifications on time can save valuable time and energy.

We ran a survey over three days, acquiring a total of 61 responses, distributed across the Undergrad, Grad and PhD populations.
GT Email was required as verification.

Genuinely I think if more clubs used the Engage calendar and more students knew how to check it, that would solve any problems

I feel like some CoC events have the email too late. Only generally in weekly coc email but not helpful if event Monday.

Challenges & Takeaways
Coordinating with strangers virtually
Unlike most hackathons, we did not have the ability to choose our own teams and were assigned to a team of four based on a business chemistry test. We were effectively strangers with a common goal.
Given the short timeframe of the challenge, this implied instantly assessing our diverse skillsets and interests for efficient work distribution and tuning ourselves to be on the same wavelength. Moreover, our schedules made it difficult for us to meet in person, reinforcing strong active communication.
Data Gathering in a time crunch
Adopting a user-centered design approach, we wished to communicate with our intended users directly. But given that we only had a week in hand and most students were busy with finals to participate in interviews, we put together a survey and pooled in our resources to share it with as many GT students as we could.
Our efforts yielded great results and were unanimously appreciated. We amassed 61 responses with a good representation of students from all levels - Undergrad, Grad and PhD.
Time Management and Initiative
The Innovation challenge took place in the middle of finals week, and we found ourselves juggling this along with classes and exams. As such, one of our teammates dropped out of the challenge, leaving us with a team of three.
I took the initiative to coordinate our schedules and fill in for work if one of my teammates was held up. This truly challenged and honed my time management skills.
